The Staff Document Centre (SDC) is a location where shared documents can be stored. It is a modern replacement for the S: Drive and powered by Sharepoint.

You may hear it referred to as simply "Sharepoint".

SDC can be accessed via this link:

(Also available via links on SIMON and Intranet)

Why are we changing to SDC?

Unlike the S Drive, The Staff Document Centre, and all files within it can be accessed from anywhere. No need to be on-campus or use tools like a VPN to access. It is also easier to work collaboratively with multiple people working on a single document.

Is the S drive being removed?

At a date in the future (TBC), S Drive will be made read-only. This means staff will be able to open documents from it but not able to save new documents to it.

Should we use the SDC now?

Yes. All new shared documents that would have previously ended up on the S Drive should now be saved onto the SDC.

Who can save documents to the SDC?

By default only Heads of Department have full access to their respective department folders. If a Head of Department would like other staff, in the department, to have more that read only permissions, then please submit a helpdesk ticket.

How can I add documents to the SDC?

New documents can be created directly in the SDC, or existing documents can be uploaded by dragging and dropping files or even complete folders.

So I have to use the browser for all my work now?

Not necessarily. Once you start using the SDC you will see recent documents show up in your desktop Office apps such as Word and Excel. Clicking these will open the documents in the app without needing to go via your browser.

Can I edit my documents using the Office apps instead of in Chrome/browser?

Yes. This can be done by choosing the option from the editing menu:

What if I have other questions about the SDC?

Please submit a helpdesk ticket and a member of the ICT team will be able to assist.
