The Kildare and St. Paul's libraries have charging towers for students to charge their laptops in. This can be used any time, before, during or after school. To use the charger:
Please note, the St. Paul's tower will look different, but the instructions remain much the same. If you're not sure, speak to someone in the library and they'll be glad to help.
Find an empty locker
Look at all the lockers, and find one that opens up that doesn't have a laptop inside
Plug in your laptop
Plug your charger into the power point inside the locker and plug it into your laptop. Make sure that the power point is turned on and lights up orange, otherwise your laptop won't charge!
Make sure your laptop is actually charging:
Lock the locker
On the panel at the front, type in the locker you selected (e.g. 4), then press OK.
You'll be asked for a PIN, so type one in. You can't use a PINs like 1234, 5678 or 9876, so pick something else (e.g. the last four digits of your phone number, or your month and year of birth (e.g. 0806)
Type the number in again to confirm. When prompted, press the locker in to lock it
When prompted, push the door closed until you hear a click. If you try and push on the door before the prompt, the door will just open up again.
Make sure you see the confirmation message before you leave, otherwise your laptop may not be secured.
Unlock the locker
When you want your laptop back, type in the locker you selected before (e.g. 4) then press OK
You'll be asked for the PIN you typed in before, so enter that.
The locker will unlock. Take your laptop and charger. You don't need to push the door close
Troubleshooting
I push the door closed, and it just opens up again!
The door won't close until you've selected a locker, entered in a PIN and have been told to close the door, so make sure you've done that before closing the door
I can't remember my PIN, or I can't remember which locker I put my laptop in!
Library staff have the ability to unlock and inspect the contents of lockers, so ask someone from the library, and they'll be able to look in or unlock the locker for you.
I don't have my charger with me!
If the charger is in your bag or in the classroom, go and get it. If the classroom or locker area is locked, a yard duty teacher can unlock the door for you. If you don't have your charger at school, ask someone else in your class, as a lot of laptops charge via USB-C (e.g. MacBooks, a large number of Lenovos, most Android / Samsung phones / newer iPhones). IT are unable to loan a charger or laptop to you if your laptop is flat.
