Introduction:

This Knowledgebase Article will provide you with options for backing up your current laptop, including your files, emails, and web browsing data (saved passwords, bookmarks).

Before commencing the backing up process, there are some things you should know

You do not need to worry about backing up the following data:

  • Recent emails:

Your emails are stored on our Exchange (email) server. When you setup email on your new laptop, your emails will be automatically downloaded again from the server.

See the Email Archive section to confirm your archived emails have been backed up from your current laptop.

  • H: Drive:

The files on your H: Drive are stored on the File Server, and will automatically appear on your new laptop.

Backing up will take time:

If you choose to use the Cloud backup option, your files will be available on your new laptop when you sign into OneDrive. If you choose to use the Manual backup option, you will need to copy your backed up files to your new device.

Both options will require you to allow time for the back up process to complete. This involves either copying files over to the USB memory/Portable HDD or automated upload of your files to OneDrive. Depending on the size of your backup, this could range from minutes, to hours.

You must allow sufficient time to complete the backup process before attending your new laptop collection appointment.
