If you get error messages such as "Changes have been made that affect the global template, Normal.dot. Do you want to save those changes?" or have other issues loading or saving documents, you might need to replace your Normal.dotm file, which is a file that all new Microsoft Word documents are based on.
How to do this depends on what sort of computer you have.
Replace the Normal.dotm file on a Mac:
- Download the file attached to this solution (at the bottom of this page)
- Open Finder, and click Go > Go To Folder
Go T - A box will appear. You need to copy and paste in this: ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content/Templates
- A folder will appear. You need to copy the file you downloaded over the top of the file in the Templates folder and replace it.
Replace the Normal.dotm file on Windows:
- Download the file attached to this solution (at the bottom of this page)
- Hold down the Windows Key and press R. A box will pop up and ask for a path. You need to enter: %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates
- Now you need to copy the downloaded file into that folder, and replace the existing file within that folder
